[edit] Information

George Clarke’s Amazing Spaces: Series 4 The architect extraordinaire is back for another tour of offbeat small builds - and he isn't confining his travels to the UK. He's off to Italy. He even tries making a one of his own. For many the dream of having a bolt hole or a place to escape from their hectic lives can seem unobtainable. Architect George Clarke shows how such big dreams can be achieved in small and affordable places.

[edit] Private Jet

The most spectacular place he visits is so high up in the mountains that it's only accessible by helicopter, but this difficulty is more than made up for by the views seen from it. Back in Britain, George meets a man turning a wrecked private jet into a crash pad and a gypsy tattoo artist with big plans for an old railway carriage. George also challenges his pal, craftsman Will Hardie, to create a woodland retreat for less than the price of a family holiday.

[edit] UFO House

The architect meets a man trying to build the first UFO-styled pre-fabricated Futuro house seen in Britain for 50 years, and a woman creating a magical garden room using centuries-old techniques, involving earth, sand, straw and even human hair. George's Italian road trip takes him to a traditional old village, where he discovers the most modern of houses with an extraordinary design featuring a floating swimming pool. And, as he and Will get down to work on their wilderness retreat, there's a close shave involving an oak tree.

[edit] Italian Fire Station

Will Hardie and George struggle to bring ancient Roman technology back to life and the build on their log cabin in the wilderness begins in earnest, while the road trip around Italy takes in an impressive fire station. The architect also meets David Moreton, a former Paralympic swimmer hoping to turn an old air ambulance into an amphibious crash pad for his charity fundraising tours, and DIY enthusiasts Ben and Michelle, who want to build a summerhouse for free, using hundreds of disused shipping pallets.

[edit] Luxury 50s Yacht

George meets newlyweds who are investing their life savings in a dilapidated 1950s yacht, and in rural Aberdeenshire, a barley farmer who wants to build a traditional Highland bothy for just £8,000. The Italian road trip visits a stunning treehouse in an olive grove, while George and Will's home-made wilderness lodge starts to take shape, with the roof ready to be installed.

[edit] Signal Box

In Cumbria, the architect meets Harry, who wants to take a derelict Victorian railway signal box and turn it into a garden summerhouse for his home, while in Derby, 22-year-old wood carver Sophie hopes to transform a campervan into a mobile home and showroom to use to sell her wares at festivals. On his Italian road trip, George discovers a spectacular house made almost entirely out of glass near Lake Lugano, and at the wilderness retreat, he and Will struggle to get the walls right.

[edit] Portable Cabin

The architect meets a couple in Worcestershire who have given up the rat race, selling their town house to buy some land in the country. With just £50,000 they set out to construct their own home from the most unlikely of starting points - four old portable office buildings. Schoolteacher Lauren, who discovered an enormous pond hidden under decking in the back garden, sets out to transform the plot into a beach-themed holiday retreat. As George's Italian road trip continues, he travels to the old town of Mathi, north of Turin, where he finds a modernist gem of a home.

[edit] Doctor who Shed

The architect travels to Macclesfield to meet a first-time builder who hopes to transform an allotment shed into a Doctor Who-esque, multi-functional play den for less than £300. He also visits a spectacular live-in tree house in Scotland, and creates a medieval-style lock for the wood cabin, with Will's help. The Italian road trip takes in a holiday lodge made almost entirely from glass in the Dolomites.

[edit] Pony Trailer

Will Hardie travels to Wales to meet Joelle, a teacher transforming a dilapidated pony trailer into a holiday retreat on a budget of just £1,000, while on the Italian road trip, George views a tiny house perched on top of a cliff. The wilderness cabin is also revealed in all its glory.

[edit] Christmas Special 2012

In this festive special, the architect visits a man-made stalactite crystal grotto in Surrey, and meets a small-spaces enthusiast who has rebuilt and renovated a Victorian flat-pack tin chapel in Shropshire to create a magical holiday home. He also catches up with carpenter Adam, who created a double-decker bus holiday home on the Brighton coastline, Jay and Jonathan at their ambulance-turned-campervan in Norfolk, and Barry at his hexagonal home in Lancashire.

[edit] Christmas Special 2013

George returns for a Christmas special, visiting Christmas-themed builds including a gingerbread house, an underground grotto decorated with shells, and a beach hut advent calendar
