From a Glasgow call centre, 16-year-old Elliot Castro began scamming innocent people. But the luxury lifestyle it funded spiralled into darkness, danger - and eventually prison.

[edit] Chapter 1:

A cautionary tale about one of the UK’s most notorious credit card fraudsters, whose five-year crime wave began at just 16 years of age. While his contemporaries were using fake IDs to get into nightclubs, he was defrauding innocent cardholders from his desk in a call centre, laying the groundwork for a journey that would open up a world of wealth, first-class travel and an escape from the life he seemed destined for. But, as he soon discovers, this lifestyle would be laced with darkness, danger and terrible consequences.

At just 18 years of age, Elliot is an international fraudster who is on the run from law enforcement around the globe. He pursues his scams around the world, chasing the dream of a lavish lifestyle. But it is a lonely existence, which leaves him craving connection with family and friends. It also proves to be a perilous one – trips to Dublin, Toronto and elsewhere accrue investigators and police officers, several of whom speak in interviews and archive footage, keen to ensure he serves time for his crimes. With a trail of crime stretching across continents, Elliot becomes more paranoid than ever that capture and a long stint in a foreign jail is just around the corner.

Facing deportation to the UK, it seems inevitable that Elliot will fall into the hands of British cops who have put together an extensive case of his crimes. Once again, though, he has other ideas. After four years of travelling the world spending fraudulently accrued money, he continues to be chased by investigators and cops. In truth, the one thing Elliot desires as much as freedom is a settled life. But even when he thinks he’s found it, with a new home and friends, there is no escape from his trail of lies and deception. Eventually, with his life unravelling, his spending becoming chaotic and a growing resentment for the fraud that has funded his lifestyle, justice catches up with Elliot.
