The Secret World of Tinder Documentary exploring how social networking and always-connected lifestyles have altered the dating scene in Britain, with smartphone apps now providing people with the opportunity to find love - or lust - at the touch of a button. Online, location-based databases now help users to connect with like-minded people seeking romance, but sometimes, this facility has a dark and dangerous side. This film explores all elements of how the digital world has integrated itself into modern dating, to get to the heart of a phenomenon that has taken the UK by storm. Thanks to dating apps and websites, those looking for love (or something a little less U-rated) have an ever-expanding number of potential suitors at their fingertips. But this doc offers a warning: never has “quality over quantity” been more appropriate. As the daters here attest, using an app like Tinder – which finds other users nearby – often means withstanding a barrage of explicit, barely legible pick-up lines, especially for women. Anyone who doesn’t open a conversation with “U r hot” is practically marriage material in comparison. For those with niche interests (ever heard of “puppy play”?) apps can be an efficient way to meet like-minded people, and there is apparent success for a couple of serial ditherers. But the picture is generally rather bleak: “You’re only as good as your worst Tinder picture,” says one battle-hardened dater.
